"DUAL PORT" WASTEGATE

Lindsey Racing felt there was a need for a better
wastegate for the Porsche 944 Turbo. The factory wastegate just wasn't up to the task of increased performance.
After testing of the stock wastegate, it was realized there was
much room for improvement.
Well, we went and did it
again. Finally a Dual Port wastegate allowing for
complete boost control that is 100% bolt-on. No welding, cutting, drilling or any surprises what-so-ever. This one installs in the exact reverse order of removing the stock one. Other aftermarket wastegates
fitted on the 944 Turbo will require exhaust and
wastegate support hanger modifications.
Featuring:
- Dual Port Configuration for boost level adjust-ability.
- Improved high temperature Nomex reinforced actuator diaphragm.
- Heavier Stainless Steel actuator spring.
- Stainless Steel actuator valve.
- Ceramic valve guide.
- Anodized 6061 Aluminum diaphragm housing.
- Precision NC Machined.
- This is a true 100% bolt-on.
- Includes new installation hardware. (expect hose fittings)
The factory wastegate is a single port wastegate meaning the signal pressure air is only applied to
one side of the actuator diaphragm. The spring pressure is also weak on the factory unit allowing
it to open with boost pressures as little as 1 to 2 pounds. Being limited to one port and a weak spring
means the wastegate opens early (increased turbo lag) and the rate at which it opens and closes (boost level) is not adjustable.
Our dual port configuration allows for a second air signal on the opposite side of the diaphragm. The
spring or control side. By adjusting this air pressure with a regulator (Manual Boost Controller) either up or down on this side is like changing the spring pressure. You want more boost? Your raise the pressure on the spring side and the wastegate closes. You want less boost? You lower the pressure on the spring side and the
wastegate opens.
You will need a boost controller to adjust our wastegate or any dual port wastegate.
We offer manual and electronic boost controllers.
Holding 15 psi or more of boost in high gears is no problem for this dual port design. Not only that,
you can also turn the boost down to as low as 9 psi when conditions require.
If you're running a stock wastegate, you're probably losing boost the faster you go. Many customers had
reported boost dwindling down to 11 psi or less in 4th gear with their stock wastegate. If you're shooting
for 15, your 11 works out to be around a 40 horsepower loss in the high gears where you need it most. The Lindsey Racing wastegate is manufactured utilizing parts from the original wastegate. We rebuild the factory hot housing side and add our dual port controller housing to it. Since the hot side of the wastegate is what bolts to the exhaust, you're guaranteed a "modification free" fit. All other wastegates for the 951 require exhaust and hanger modification. Otherwise known as the "undetermined and unknown expense". This is because they are not designed specifically for the 951 as ours is.
We require you to return your old wastegate to us for processing. We have a core charge that is fully refunded when we receive your old unit. Or you can send us yours in advance for a no core charge exchange.
The wastegate is able to be installed by the user with a few basic tools in about an hour. Look at our on-line Wastegate Installation Instructions to see how easy it is.
There is a slight difference between the early ('86/'87) wastegate and the '88 and later models. It is limited to the shape of the cooling fins and diaphragm bolt flange area. All other dimensions and components are the same. Both styles are interchangeable. We prefer you order for the year of your car.
We pioneered the dual port wastegate conversion for the 951. As of March, 2003 we have over 350 of these dual ports
out in the field in race cars and in street cars everywhere around the world. Since then, there has been more than
one copy cat. Attempting to do all that we do in the conversion and do it for less. They soon realize that it's
not easy, it's a lot of work, and you get back a lot of wastegates that need a lot of extra work to get them rebuilt and back in the field. Been there, done that, and learned from 3 years of experience. We have hundreds
of old diaphragms that came out of the cores. Many burned up and torn or about to fail. We learned that using the old one is not possible. The factory spring, contrary to belief, does not significantly weaken over time. It's just not strong enough to begin with. We install a new one with a higher seat pressure. The design of our wastegate diaphragm housing duplicated the travel and stop position of the original wastegate. If this is not duplicated, you end up with less travel of the valve and it's ability to bleed off exhaust will be compromised. This is one of the main reasons our "Clubgate" wastegate was PCA Club Racing Approved. We install new valve seats and guides if necessary. Boost control of you car is critical. Overboost can cause pre-mature failure of head gaskets and possibly worse. Don't settle for cheap imitations or do-it-yourself dual port upgrades. Bank on our experience with a Lindsey Racing dual port 100% bolt-in wastegate backed up by a company with an excellent reputation.
