HORSEPOWER TALK APRIL 2001

A lot has happened since our last newsletter. Two of the new products we have been working on are now available for delivery with more to come later in the month.

For those of you who have bought our Boost Enhancer, you know how well this unit improves the performance of your car by reducing the turbo lag. It is a very affordable product that works to overcome the problem with the stock wastegate.

Now available: 944/951 Wastegate:

The production units are complete and Lindsey Racing is now offering them for sale. This wastegate is the affordable answer to some of the problems you experience with your 944Turbo; most important of which is turbo lag. Installing other manual boost controllers on the stock wastegate, as some of you have already done, only restricts the pressure going to the wastegate to achieve the higher boost level. This does not alter the spring rate of the stock wastegate or improve its ability to overcome the drop in boost pressure all drivers experience.

The second big problem people experience with the stock wastegate is the drop in boost pressure in higher gears. This pressure drop results from the increasing exhaust gas back pressure and higher engine loads in 4th and 5th gears. The factory wastegate is unable to overcome this high exhaust gas pressure which actually forces the wastegate open resulting in the turbo slowing and a loss of boost pressure.

Lindsey Racing has reconfigured the stock wastegate from a single port unit to a dual port unit by replacing the factory stamped steel pressure pot with a billet aluminum component designed to mount on the factory cast steel exhaust housing which is cleaned and rebuilt. This dual port configuration of our wastegate allows you to adjust the pressure under the diaphragm to increase its effective spring rate and therefore control this boost drop off. You MUST have a dual port design in order to accomplish this!

As planned, this is a 100% bolt-on wastegate that you can install in you own garage in just over an hour. It must be installed with either a single stage boost controller (VARIABLE BOOST CONTROL REGULATOR Part # LR-VBC-25 $59.95) or our two stage boost controller (AFTERBURNER- PART # AB-MK-01 $389.00) Either controller allows the driver to adjust boost pressures from as low as 7 pounds to as high as 23 pounds.

In order for the Dual Port Wastegate to function properly, the Cycling Valve must be disconnected and the line to it capped to prevent an air leak.

There is an installation section on our web page, which will take you through the installation procedure step -by -step with a series of photos and text instructions.

Note: The 1986 wastegate is slightly different from those on the 1987 and newer models. Please be sure to include the year of your vehicle so we can provide the correct replacement part. 951 Wastegate ~ Part # 951-WG-01 $399.00 (86) 951 Wastegate ~ Part # 951-WG-02 $399.00 (87 and later) Refundable Core Deposit ~ Part # 951-WG-CD $200.00

Now Available:

The Afterburner: 2 Stage Boost Control at the push of a button. Intended for both street and race applications, this simple, affordable device gives the driver a momentary burst of power at the push of a button. Ever had trouble with some souped-up Honda in the neighborhood? Many times on the racetrack, passing can be difficult but if you had a little more horsepower just at the appropriate time, the pass could be made faster and safer.

The Afterburner used in conjunction with our wastegate gives a driver the ability to adjust the boost as low as 7 pounds and as high as 23. Lets take that idea one step further; if you can increase the boost level upon demand, how about decreasing it too!? That's right, there are several situations where the level of power you have in you car is too much for a given situation. The 944 turbo at 7 pounds of boost is much more manageable in slick conditions than under normal boost pressures. How about that cold damp track, early in the morning, that many of us experience in early spring or late fall? The Afterburner can easily be set to reduce the boost level at the push of a button, just release it when you have rounded that wet corner or you're off that wet section of drag strip that many tracks use as their straightaway.

Installation of the Afterburner is fairly simple and takes about three hours with simple hand tools. As with the Wastegate, check our web page for step-by-step installation with a series of photos and text instructions.

Afterburner Kit:

Part # AB-MK-01 $389.00 Comes complete with all mounting hardware, hose and instructions.

Mass Air Flow:

Our initial run of Mass Air Flow units is in production and we are busy collecting all of the little things that will be provided in the kit. If everything comes together as planned, we should be offering them in late April or early May.

As stated previously, Lindsey Racing's MAF will have remote fuel adjustability for both idle mixture and high load conditions, it will deliver maximum airflow and will work with your existing software. Because of this, it can be installed in a very short time. No complicated operations to installing it. Anyone can do it.

Initially we will be offering our MAF in two different configurations:

Level I: Will be installed in the stock air inlet hose similar to the stock air-flow meter. The stage I kit will come with a conical air filter, all mounting hardware and clamps, and best of all, it will include our Injector/Air Flow Meter.

Level II: Will be installed on a power tube that goes between the MAF and the Turbo which adds additional HP gains. The stage II kit will also come with a conical air filter, all mounting hardware and clamps, and will include our Injector/Air Flow Meter. Best of all, they will be competitively priced!

Ported 951 cylinder head:

Our cylinder head expert is too busy building everybody else's race cars to get our head finished. We are waiting impatiently for it to arrive and will provide the dyno test as soon as possible. It should be worth the wait!

951 Rear Wing:

Construction of the rear wing mounting base and the uprights is proceeding slowly but surely. There are 6 molds necessary (four are 2 piece molds) just to build the uprights and they are now complete. The mounting base will consist of 4 more, much larger molds which are now being built. The wing configurations are being supplied by GT Racing and they will have mounting flanges of our specification built into them. Once we have a complete part, lots of testing will be necessary before we will be able to offer our wing to the marketplace. Be patient, we will have it available this summer.

We will be adding a customer car section to your web site. If you have a photo of your car, please forward it to Dave, along with a description. Your current mods, future plans, or whatever you wish to say. Once we start to receive information from you, you will see it show up on the web site shortly afterwards.
