951 STAGE I & II INTERCOOLER

Lindsey Racing Stage I and Stage II Intercooler for the 944 Turbo.

Lindsey Racing Intercooler Pictured

click to enlarge photo Lindsey Racing has tested and determined that the stock 951 intercooler has serious restrictions built into it's factory design.

We have taken the 951 intercooler and extensively modified it providing an increase in flow rate with greater cooling efficiency.

No modifications to the body structure are necessary, you retain your headlight system, AC and there is no blockage of the air supplied to the radiator. This is an afforadable option available to every 951 owner! The more your car is modified, the more you need a Lindsey Racing intercooler.

Stock (top) Stage I (center) Stage II (bottom) intercoolers. The modifications performed in the Stage I upgrade corrects major restrictions in the factory unit resulting in an 18% (205CFM to 248CFM @ 28" of water column) increase in the flow rate resulting in quicker spool up of the turbocharger and better throttle response. This is accomplished by replacing the tank on the inlet (left) side of the intercoolers shown (click on photo). 75% of the gain from modifying the stock intercooler comes from the Stage 1 upgrade! We recommend our Stage I Intercooler for use on stock cars to ones with moderate modifications. Both Stage I & II modifications improve the dispersion of the air through the cooling tubes resulting in more efficient cooling of intake charge air by a 20 degrees reduction in inlet temperature. Cooler intake air equals additional HP. Reduced restriction mean more air/fuel to the cylinders equalling additional HP.

The stage II modifications correct remaining restrictions and is recommended for more modified or racing engines requiring maximum flow. The percentage of CFM improvement is even greater. This is accomplished by removal of the outlet (right) side tank and making many internal modifications which are not visible in the photo and some external modifications. These modifications are clearly visible once you have removed your stock unit and make a side by side comparison. To give you an idea of the enlargement... If you look inside the end of the outlet on the stock intercooler, you cannot see any of the core. On our modified Stage II, you see 75% of the core. We recommend our Stage II Intercooler for modestly modified to all out race applications!

Both intercoolers will supply a wider power band and a reduction in Horse Power drop off at higher RPMs where you need the additionl flow.

The more your engine is modified, the more you benefit from the Lindsey Racing Intercoolers!

Either can be customer installed in under two hours.

The Lindsey Racing intercoolers require only "minor" modifications to your car. You will be required to remove one factory-mounting tab, which can be done in mere seconds. Everything else remains completely stock on your 951. Other viable intercoolers options available for the 951 require you to heavily modify your front uni-body structure. Modifications more reserved for dedicated track cars. Not the Lindsey Racing unit. Ours installs easily in under two hours and can be done by anyone with basic mechanical knowledge and a few tools.

Stage 1

Recommended for stock 2.5 liter engines to engines using air cleaner upgrades, performance chip sets, Lindsey Boost Enhancer, exhaust modifications or running higher then stock boost levels.

Stage II

Recommended for 2.5 to 3.3 liter engines using Mass Air Flow Systems, Dual Port Wastegates, larger turbos, ported heads, cams and larger exhaust.

Test data from July 1, 2000 comparing pressure drop and temperature drop between stock intercooler vs. the Lindsey Racing Stage I and Stage II intercooler modification. Pressure drop is measured in psi and temperature drop is in Fahrenheit. Pressure drop was measured using a Dwyer Instruments Magnehelic Differential Pressure Gage model 102022-00 (range 0-2 psi). Temperature drop was measured with the Lindsey Racing Digital LED Intercooler Temperature Gauge. Tests were performed on a 1988 Porsche 944 Turbo S (952). Car is stock except for Autothority Stage II chip set. Pressure drops were measured at 6,000 rpm in 3rd gear under full boost. Temperature drops were measured after run up from 2,000 rpm in 2nd gear at 4,000 in 4th gear under full boost.

INTERCOOLER PRESSURE DROP TEMP IN TEMP OUT TEMP DIFF
STOCK 1.35 251 109 -142
STAGE I 1.35 268 98.5 -169.5
STAGE II 1.20 263.5 112 -151.5

Purchasing Options:

  • Option 1:
Purchase the intercooler with a refundable core deposit. This is what most customers choose to do as this eliminates any down time of the car. Upon receipt of you good usable core back, you are refunded you full deposit.

  • Option 2:
Upon receipt of your intercooler, we will either modify yours and return, or do an immediate same day exchange (at our option). This will depend on inventory on hand and current work load. If you know your intercooler has some damage, this would be the best choice.

INTERNATIONAL ORDERING

TO OUR INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS:

In the past, we have used a separate order form for placing International orders. We have quit using that process and are requiring all customer to use the shopping cart system built into the web site and it's check out process.

If you simply want a quotation and are not ready to place an order, then cut and paste the contents of your shopping basket, take a screen shot of the basket, or make a list of items and send us a email requesting a quotation with shipping.

If you need shipping prices before you make your final decision to purchase, then you should request that quotation by email and not use the shopping cart checkout process because you will be paying for the parts at that time.

Since our shopping cart and shipping estimator will "NOT" correctly calculate shipping charges on International Orders, we have it set-up to where the shipping will be Zero Dollars ($0.00) when checking out. When the shopping carts address process learns you are not in the United States by selecting your particular country, that's when it switches to equal Zero. That does NOT mean shipping is free.

Upon completion of the check out process, you will have paid for your parts but NOT the shipping on those parts.

Once we look over your parts ordered and calculate shipping weights and box sizes, we will send you an E-Mail with at least one shipping option and maybe several. We utilize UPS, DHL and the United States Postal Service (USPS) to deliver your parts.

Once you pick a shipping carrier and agree to the quotation by returning the E-Mail, we will be sending a PayPal money request for the amount of the shipping to be collected. If the parts are expected to be shipping out quickly, then you may receive that email quickly. If the parts are going to need to be built or something is on back order from the list of parts, we may hold off sending that E-Mail until we have the shipment ready to go. It can vary from order to order as to how we do that. If you think you should be hearing from us quickly, but you don't, feel free to contact us.

If you have special shipping needs or requirements, during the checkout you will see a SPECIAL ORDER INSTRUCTIONS window. Enter that special information there.

A good bit of our business is International and we have been taking care of those valued customers since 1999.
